** Genome Biothon: Event Description**
Genome Biothon 2026 is a multi-stage interdisciplinary hackathon that brings together students and professionals from biotechnology, computer science, computer engineering, artificial intelligence/machine learning, data science, and business information systems.

The event focuses on solving real-world challenges in genomics, food systems, and climate-resilient agriculture by combining biological knowledge with modern software engineering, AI/ML, and data-driven approaches. Participants will develop innovative solutions including AI models, data analysis tools, and research-driven prototypes.

This event is important to the .NET open source community because it highlights the role of modern software, cloud platforms, and open-source tools in solving complex interdisciplinary problems. Participants will build applications and systems that can leverage technologies such as .NET, APIs, and cloud computing.

The .NET Foundation should sponsor this event because it supports a diverse and interdisciplinary developer community, encourages adoption of open-source technologies, and helps connect software engineers with real-world scientific and data-driven problem-solving.

We would like to request in-kind sponsorship support including promotional swag (approximately 150 T-shirts) to distribute to participants, as well as additional items such as stickers or other swag. We would also appreciate support in the form of prizes or gifts for winning teams to recognize their contributions and encourage participation.
